Whose Recipe?
Whose Recipe? is a participatory cooking game that examines how recipes are written, circulated, trusted, and contested.
Rather than treating a recipe as a fixed set of instructions, the project brings together conflicting sources — family knowledge, historical cookbooks, restaurant standards, ethnographic writing, social media, institutional guidelines, and video tutorials. Participants read, compare, vote, cook, and negotiate between these different forms of authority.
Through the process of making one dish together, Whose Recipe? asks who has the power to define how food should be prepared, which kinds of knowledge are treated as credible, and how culinary traditions are continually rewritten through translation, regulation, memory, and everyday practice.
The project forms part of my ongoing research framework, Metabolic Citizenship, which considers how bodies, food systems, environments, and administrative structures shape one another through acts of ingestion, exchange, and classification.
